IFSTA is excited to introduce the latest advancement in introductory firefighter training! Coming in 2024, Essentials of Fire Fighting, 8th Edition, provides entry-level firefighter candidates with the basic information necessary to meet the job performance requirements (JPRs) in Chapter 6, Firefighter I and Chapter 7, Firefighter II of NFPA 1010, Standard for Firefighter, Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator, Airport Firefighter, and Marine Firefighting for Land-Based Firefighter Professional Qualifications, 2023 Edition.

Essentials of Fire Fighting, 8th Edition, will present Firefighter I and II levels in their own volumes. This allows instructors to select training content to meet their exact needs. Paired with Hazardous Materials for First Responders 6th edition, IFSTA will continue to provide the most complete source of firefighter training content on the market.

Key updates include the following:

  • A new Operational Scene Safety and Management chapter including NIMS-ICS 100 information
  • Updated fire behavior content based on the latest UL FSRI research
  • Updated information regarding firefighter mental health/resilience and cancer risk and reduction
  • Chapters for Fire Hose, Hose Operations, and Hose Streams are combined into one chapter
