Trucking Hazardous Materials is a 23-minute training video produced by Emergency Film Group for truckers, dock personnel, and others in the transportation industry who handle hazardous materials.
Purchase includes a 52-page guidebook which outlines a four-hour (or more) course of instruction providing the information necessary to safely and legally transport hazardous materials by truck. Includes required testing and certification materials.
About Hazardous Materials
Because of the large number of hazardous chemicals used in modern industrial processes, thousands of these hazardous materials are shipped on roadways every year. On any given highway, the threat of a serious accident is always present.
Shipments of hazardous materials in the US are subject to a specific set of rules published and enforced by the DOT. This includes clearly defined training requirements, which detail the training that employees who handle hazardous materials must undergo. The purpose of the training is to increase awareness of safety considerations, resulting in fewer accidents.
About the program
Trucking Hazardous Materials is designed to assist organizations to comply with the regulations set forth by the DOT (49 CFR 172-177), and to improve hazardous materials safety programs. The package includes a 23-minute video and an accompanying Leader’s Guide, which together provide at least four hours of training as well as all required tests and certification forms.
The video describes the nature of hazardous materials as defined by the nine DOT hazard classes and tells how to use labels, placards and markings to identify hazmat containers. Other topics covered include filling out shipping papers properly, using the DOT hazmat tables, correct loading and unloading procedures, and how to react safely in the event of an unexpected spill or leak in order to best protect the community and the environment.
The companion 52-page Leader’s Guide includes pre- and post-seminar tests, ideas for classroom activities to reinforce the above-mentioned training topics, and certification forms appropriate for record-keeping, as required by the DOT.
